Project Description:

ARCHIWEST-Logo

The original property was a large 6 bedroom Victorian house located within the Great Weston Conservation Area (formerly the Beach Lawns Conservation Area). The significance of this area is largely placed on the historic development during the last phases of the Victorian resort and the architectural interest is the consistency of the streets and rhythm of architectural elements such as gables and bay windows.

The proposals involved the vertical sub-division of the property into two self-contained dwellings and conversion of the integral garage. The existing entrance was retained for the right-hand property and the left-hand property was accessed from a new entrance in place of the existing up and over garage door.

The approved planning scheme included major internal alterations to separate the property, including single storey extensions to the rear, keeping the impact on the wider site context and Conservation Area to a minimum. Due to the protections in place for protected heritage areas, an extensive Architectural Landscaping element was also involved for this project. This involved close consultation with the North Somerset planning & conservation department to develop attractive proposals for the creation of two separate permeable driveways and soft landscaping
