Project Description:
A charming Grade II listed manor house, predominantly dated from the 17th Century, although physical and documentary evidence exists for much earlier origins. and situated in the Mendip AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The property had unfortunately suffered from fire damage and the works involved a comprehensive listed building application for the remedial repairs, in addition to a full package of alteration works including the reversal of modern internal alterations, spatial reordering and a Victorian style glass house extension.
Of particular interest in part of the fire damaged area was a well documented oak carved fire surround dated 1672 (pictured below) and described by Pevsner as ‘essentially Jacobean despite the date', along with a finely carved stone scrolled pediment with coat of arms on the principal elevation. All required sensitive restoration and close coordination between the Insurance Company, Conservation Officer and Building Contractor.
