This project near Wedmore involved the complete rebuilding of the existing single storey property, a large single storey extension, extensive landscaping and groundworks including a retaining wall. The existing structure was taken back to bare walls, reconfigured, re-wired, re-roofed and completely modernised. The new sustainable heating system includes air source heat pumps paired with underfloor heating throughout and an exceptional polished concrete floor finish.

Combined with high levels of insulation, natural light and wheelchair friendly access, this now makes a lovely place to call home for the owners.

WESTON-SUPER-MARE Conservation Area

Victorian Seafront Conversion & Extension Project

Client:

Domestic

2021

Completion Date:

Project Description:

ARCHIWEST-Logo

The original property was a large 6 bedroom Victorian house located within the Great Weston Conservation Area (formerly the Beach Lawns Conservation Area). The significance of this area is largely placed on the historic development during the last phases of the Victorian resort and the architectural interest is the consistency of the streets and rhythm of architectural elements such as gables and bay windows.

The approved planning scheme included major internal alterations to separate the property, including extensions to the rear, keeping the impact on the wider site context and Conservation Area to a minimum. Due to the protections in place for protected heritage areas, an extensive Architectural Landscaping element was also involved for this project.
